Hello everyone,
since the gardening season is about to start again, I would like to know from you how to grow tomatoes myself. I love those small cherry tomatoes, but the ones from the supermarket often have little flavor. How can I grow them myself, is it difficult?

How often should the seeds be watered before the plant starts to grow? And how many seeds is best to plant in the pot? Thank you!

Tomato seeds germinate very well if the slimy coating is allowed to mold first. This coating otherwise hinders germination. I learned this from my grandfather: to annoy my grandmother, he mixed a few teaspoons of tomato seeds with some water, took a suitable saucer, placed it on the windowsill, and waited until all the moisture had molded. The tomato seeds were not damaged by this; he grew them commercially. The seeds were sown in January, in our case in a cold frame with at least two-year-old horse manure underneath (otherwise it gets too hot), covered lightly with very fine soil, and the seedlings were pricked out when they reached 5-10 cm (2-4 inches) in size.

If you don’t have a grandmother, I honestly don’t know how to do it 🙂
Best regards, Gabriele

How is your tomato harvest looking this year? I have to say, we can hardly keep up with eating all the tomatoes – we’ve had so many, and in such a wide variety of colors, which we haven’t seen for a long time! The super summer of 2019 really paid off for the tomatoes at least. :-)

But it probably wasn’t a very good year for the zucchini.

Tomatoes are very good, cucumbers are rare.

Tomatoes are great, just like last year.
