We are currently planning the landscaping around our property, and the topic of boundary fencing is part of that.
The west side of our lot is 49 meters long. For simplicity’s sake, I wanted to plant hedge roses. Unfortunately, my husband is not at all enthusiastic about that. Six months of complaining on his part hasn’t helped.
He would prefer a self-made stake fence, but I’m not keen on going into the forest to cut down small trees. Maybe for 10 or 20 meters, but not for 50 meters.
Neither of us wants shrubs or bushes.
Recently, I saw a film about orchards where they planted medium-height fruit trees in rows. I immediately liked that idea for us, and surprisingly, my husband did too :-)
So my question is: Has anyone used espalier or columnar trees as a boundary fence and could share their experiences?

Purpose of the enclosure: I don’t want deer and wild boars in the garden. They won’t be bothered by espalier fruit trees, but definitely by a trellis that consistently surrounds your garden. Espalier fruit trees are not suitable as room dividers or barriers, nor are dwarf or miniature trees. There is just the trunk with gaps, nothing more.N

I'm totally confused right now. What do you mean by that? That the trunks are not standing right next to each other, but, as in my example picture, there is a lot of space between the trunks. This happens when planting espalier trees or ball-shaped trees. They are not suitable for a dense hedge. Anyone can get through—whether a large or small animal.Espalier fruit trees are not suitable for protecting against wild boars.
That said, it’s not certain whether wild boars cause a lot of damage. In our company grounds, they just walk through without much problem. Deer nibble on everything, though. However, I like having them around.
I would only build a fence where you really don’t want them, for example, around the vegetable garden.
Roses and similar plants are more for aesthetic purposes.
