project20155 Dec 2014 22:43Hello everyone,
maybe you can help me. We are planning to build in the near future and have been working on floor plans and so on for some time.
My wife places great importance on a "nice" front view of the house. Specifically, she would like:
Basement: Front door with sidelights centrally positioned, with two windows arranged symmetrically on each side, front door set back (by one brick?).
Upper floor: Triangular glass element with a break in the eaves (a kind of dormer, similar to a captain’s or Frisian gable, but recessed).
She doesn’t like covered entrances with glass roofs.
Does anyone have an idea what my wife means, so I can search for it online? Maybe there are images or drawings available.
I think it’s great if my wife likes it; usually women seem to have a better eye for these things… right! 🙂
Best regards and thanks

To achieve an attractive front elevation, it’s not about individual elements but, in my opinion, the whole must harmonize. Therefore, the front elevation should be considered as a complete overall view.

project20155 Dec 2014 23:56Hello,
thank you very much for your reply!
This entrance is very close to what I have in mind, but the recessed section should extend all the way up to under the roof, and the offset should be angled, I think about 45°.
As mentioned, on the upper floor there would then be a window element, so the front door is covered from above... I know, not the easiest to explain...

Do you happen to have a sketch/link or something similar on hand..?

Unfortunately not. But it almost sounds like the entrance area of our neighbors, except their entrance is aligned in a straight line and not recessed.
Try searching for "covered entrance" or "covered entryway" on Google and then switch to image search. You’ll find some pictures that are similar.
