Hello everyone,
I bought the TV stand "Friel" at the IKEA store in Duisburg because I wanted to give it as a gift! Since it was a gift, I naturally didn’t announce it beforehand, and now I have the problem that the TV stand doesn’t fit in her place due to its size—I must have misjudged it a bit. Well, it’s done now...
I went back to IKEA today because I wrote an email on IKEA’s website explaining that I can't find the receipt and it might have accidentally been thrown away with the recycling paper, and asked what I should do. I just received a reply telling me to visit my IKEA store in person, and they might, as a gesture of goodwill, make an exception for me.
So, I asked at the returns counter today, and they told me they can’t do anything without the receipt, but I could try speaking to the manager. However, she was busy in a meeting indefinitely at that moment. They advised me to bring the item in and ask again later. But they couldn’t guarantee that they would accept the return, as it would be a spontaneous decision. Since I need to borrow a larger vehicle to transport the TV stand back, and if they send me away again without any solution, I’d be really frustrated!
I paid 249 euros (about $270) in cash for the item, and today I saw it only costs 199 euros (about $215) now because it is being discontinued and all remaining stands are being cleared out. It’s also no longer listed on IKEA’s website.
I don’t remember the exact date of purchase, just that I paid 249 euros (about $270), and I know that you usually have three months to return an item, and that three-month period hasn’t expired yet. But they asked me when exactly I bought it so they could check the computer and print out the receipt from there. I don’t remember the exact date, and if I guess a wrong date, they might think I’m lying!
I would really like to get a full refund.
I honestly don’t know what else to do. I’ve looked everywhere and can’t find the receipt. I don’t want to sell it privately either, because I wouldn’t get my full 249 euros (about $270) back that way!
This is a really big downside with IKEA, as anyone can lose a receipt! They should take a lesson from Aldi!!
Please help me, because I really don’t know what to do—I also don’t want to make the trip with the TV stand just to be sent home again. I haven’t noticed any goodwill at all!
I really hope you can help me.
A thousand thanks in advance.

What do you expect? A round of sympathy? That won’t get you anywhere either.
As has already been said, it is a matter of goodwill. If they offer to look up the receipt again when you provide the date, I think that’s already a concession. But you don’t want to hear that.
Oh, and a forum is a discussion platform.
Enjoy your time here.

Who mentioned pity?! That’s just silly...
Am I on a kindergarten website or a forum looking for arguments?!
Let me write it down again:
I asked for help, nothing else!!
But since you don’t understand anyway, just forget it!!
If you can’t help me anyway, then don’t keep writing, or are you just bored?!
Anyway, have fun annoying others, but please bother someone else this time, although... you probably do that enough already... if you apparently have nothing better to do...
What a nice IKEA employee...
