Hello everyone,

After purchasing a house, floor tiles have been installed in one room—previously there was carpet here.
In one corner of the screed floor (at the doorway corner), unfortunately a pipe from the underfloor heating system is now laid up to the surface of the screed. The affected area is about 10cm (4 inches) long.

Does anyone have any ideas on how such an area could possibly be "stabilized"?

Since an old trench in the room was filled with concrete elsewhere, a decoupling mat is being used in the room—but this alone is unlikely to provide much stability at the mentioned corner...

Thanks and best regards,
Jens

Hello Jens,
The topic you bring up here is likely beyond the expertise of most participants.
An answer could be given to your question, but it shouldn’t be, unless the person has actually seen the site.
If it really were the case—which I find hard to imagine—that a heating element was installed directly just below the surface of the screed, then there would be nothing to stabilize!
The screed would be weakened at this point due to a notch in its cross-section, which would affect its load-bearing capacity.
This is a matter for an expert who needs to inspect the issue on site and only then can decide whether the area can be repaired or not. I only caution against accepting general opinions that might downplay the problem. If the situation is really as you describe, no DIYer with "grandma’s remedies" can provide a real solution.
Photos would have been helpful at this point, by the way!

Of course, there are options to cut or chip out the area around and beneath the heating pipe and reinforce it with mesh and resin.
A second option would be to mill a movement joint at this spot and in the appropriate directions to create a predetermined breaking point, which would then need to be covered at the top with a strip. It would just look ugly.
