Hello!

I need to determine the renovation requirements for our mortgage loan. We are complete beginners facing a problem when renovating a bathroom that is almost 30 years old.

The old toilet systems all had plastic cisterns. Nowadays, the cistern is usually nicely enclosed in a drywall installation (also known as a stud wall or frame wall). The problem for us is that the bathroom is very narrow, and a drywall installation would cost us valuable centimeters.

My question is: Is it also possible to install the drywall frame inside the (load-bearing) wall so that the cistern is built into the wall? Basically, I would create a hole in the wall, install the system, close the hole with drywall or similar material, and then mount the toilet?

I would appreciate it if someone could help me out, as I have little knowledge in this area!

Is this your own house?
Then I wouldn’t have any issues with it. I would definitely install a lintel above the mounting element.
Also, consider the flow noise when flushing and refilling the cistern. Make sure to properly insulate it.
But how is the drain supposed to run? A 100mm (4 inch) plastic waste pipe?
