ᐅ Range Hoods – Are Head-Clear Models Recommended?

Hello everyone,

we have just purchased a display kitchen that we want to use as an open kitchen. The kitchen was sold without an extractor hood, so I am now looking for a suitable one. Regarding the rooms, the kitchen itself is 10 m² (108 sq ft) and the adjoining room is 35 m² (377 sq ft). I don’t want to save on the hood because I definitely want to avoid any unpleasant odors. In general, I prefer to use a ducted ventilation system. Can you recommend any products? What should I pay attention to? Are ceiling-mounted (or recessed) hoods worth considering?

Thanks so much for your help in advance!!

Best regards

What happens to the mechanical ventilation system when the entire airflow reverses for a whole hour? Could something freeze, overheat, or become soaked, or are the filters backflushed and the dirt left inside the ducts? I’m not familiar with this. In HVAC ventilation systems with heating, cooling, drying, and humidifying sections, this would be the case.

Whether you have a mechanical ventilation system or not, of course, you open the window when the range hood is on, right!?

The mechanical ventilation system continues to supply and exhaust its 200 m³ (7,060 ft³) per hour, while the range hood exhausts 800 m³ (28,250 ft³) per hour through the window. There should be no reversal of airflow. However, it is possible that 30 m³ (1,060 ft³) of air drawn from the window flows directly back into the kitchen exhaust of the mechanical ventilation, and 30 m³ (1,060 ft³) of fresh air from the living room supply flows straight to the range hood exhaust.

This can save you around €400 per year.

Complete nonsense! Such a loss does not occur there. If we had daily temperatures of -25°C (−13°F) for three months, there would certainly be a loss, but with typical German weather, it is so minimal that you hardly notice it. According to your calculation, in this scenario: one house with two kitchens (basement and upper floor) would lose €800. So just install two wall ducts, then only take lukewarm showers, and my gas supplier would have to pay me every month. HA HA...... 😀

Cool, I definitely need to have this wall box. Then my heating costs will be zero.
