The windows for our semi-detached house will be installed soon...

The architect told us that once the windows are in, the exterior plaster/render should be applied shortly after. This is because we are building a semi-detached house, and the neighbor started much earlier and is moving in soon.

We’re not really sure how to feel about applying the exterior plaster so early... He says it’s not a problem... but we’re not so sure.

We still need to have the utility connections installed. According to the contractor, this will only be done once the scaffolding is removed...

Is it really not a problem to have the exterior plaster applied so early? What about all the connections that are installed outside (water connection in the garden, switches, sockets, etc.)?

Has anyone experienced this?

Or should we insist that the exterior plaster be applied later, closer to the end of construction? If we should delay the exterior plaster, does anyone know how this works with the adjoining semi-detached house? It will already have its plaster applied by then.

Thank you

The semi-detached houses should be separated by battens (plaster rails). From a soundproofing and fire protection perspective, these should not be plastered over together. This is how our builder explained it. Therefore, I don’t understand the rush, unless it was just one contract. The other family can move in without plaster as well.

External connections don’t matter since they are below the plaster.

Water connections and sockets should be prepared in advance; then it won’t be an issue. They just need to be fully installed afterward.
