Hello,
we want to finance three planned measures through a KFW loan. This seems like a reasonable idea given the initial interest-only period and the current interest rates.
While we are still waiting for an offer from Nerv, we are reviewing this application. I’m taking the liberty to share a link here. I’m not sure if I’m allowed to do that, but since KFW is not a company I would be promoting here, I hope that’s okay. If it’s not allowed, I apologize.
Now, it seems that the planned measures must be inspected by an expert. Are we correct in understanding that these experts MUST come from this list of energy efficiency specialists? We have already accessed the list and found several "experts" nearby. So far, so good. But who covers the cost for these experts? Presumably, we do? How much does such an inspection typically cost? And how thorough is the assessment? Are there multiple on-site visits, or is it more like “just show your cost estimate and that’s sufficient”? How long does it usually take to get such an expert evaluation? Is it about the same wait time as for a contractor?
Also, when submitting this KFW application through the house bank, can you tell us approximately how long it takes until approval? Three days, three weeks, closer to three months, or would even three months be optimistic?
Thank you!

Good morning. That’s correct, the consultant must be officially listed by the KfW; otherwise, it won’t work.
You pay the consultant, but 50% of the cost is subsidized.
They will also point out if you are building according to the Energy Saving Ordinance: for example, check the attic for insulation improvements, add a layer here, and you can reach KfW55 standard.
I’m not sure if they check every trade, but they should pay attention to that. After all, they are responsible with their signature. Of course, there are varying levels of thoroughness.
The KfW process is now fully online. However, I cannot provide information regarding timelines.

Thanks anyway!
I just got home and, of course, couldn’t reach any of the two experts we contacted by phone. Hmm, we’re having our roof windows installed in mid-September and have now also chosen special burglary-resistant windows there, decided rather quickly. In principle, we would be interested in including these in the mortgage as well. But will everything be arranged by mid-September?
What do you estimate the cost of such an expert would be? Are we talking about 100 or 1000 € (euros), somewhere in between, or something completely different?

Hm... 200 euros is quite a lot of money.
In our case, it’s specifically about replacing 7 windows. The main focus was burglary protection, but the U-value is naturally better than that of the previous windows. I don’t have the documents at hand right now, but the company is familiar with KfW, and the windows qualify for their subsidies.
In addition, two Velux roof windows will be installed upstairs. These are RC 2 rated and also specially lockable. However, there were no windows there before. Therefore, we don’t know if these new windows qualify for KfW funding. That wasn’t even considered at the beginning; the idea to finance this through KfW came later. An email to the company remains unanswered so far.
Finally, an alarm system will be installed. All in all, the total cost will be about 12,000 euros (about 13,000 US dollars). If the consultant were already going to cost us 500 euros (about 550 US dollars) or more… hmm.
