Hello everyone,

We are planning to purchase building plots but have a question about the sewer system that we haven’t been able to clarify yet.

First, some general information about the plots:
They are two long-established building plots in a very rural location. The plots are adjacent to each other along a road and owned by the same owner.
For various reasons, we would like to build on plot 2 (edge of town, etc.).
For the “neighbor,” the sewer line has already been extended up to the middle of their plot.
The previous owner wants to sell both plots together. Due to the favorable prices, we would buy both and try to resell plot 1 as soon as possible.
The colored marking roughly indicates the future position of the house.

About the problem:
As already mentioned, the sewer only extends to the neighbor. It would need to be extended to serve both plots.
Now, of course, the question is about the cost, since the extension would have to cover a distance of about 70 meters (230 feet) and there is already a road there.

Does anyone have experience with the typical cost per meter (yard) for extending a sewer line? We would like to have a rough estimate, as currently we have no idea. Most information online refers to the cost from the house connection to the sewer, which would be an additional expense for us.

Another idea was to route the wastewater pipe from plot 2 along the street over plot 1 and only extend the sewer line to the beginning/middle of plot 1. This might be more economical, and we could register everything in the land registry since we would own both plots.

Do you have experience with this or tips on what else we should consider?

Thanks in advance and best regards,
HaBaHa

The responsible authority knows that; usually, a single phone call is enough to get an estimate.
Since no one knows where you plan to build, no one can tell you what it will cost.

You can expect to pay around 500 to 1000 EUR per meter. This is the figure our wastewater utility companies provided, and the higher end of that range has indeed proven accurate :-(

It is quite clear why the plots are inexpensive (there is no other way to put it) and why the owner only wants to sell both together. The rear plot is probably worthless without utility connections or site development.

Thanks to Traumfaenger for his helpful answer.
In the meantime, we have received a quote of approximately 600-700€ per meter from the utility company.
