Hello everyone,

We have signed a contract with a construction company, and the house building is set to start next week. The application for temporary construction power has already been submitted, and the power pole has been installed on our plot. We also had an appointment with the utility company, and electricity should now be available on our property.

A few days ago, I spoke with our electrician, who explained that he now needs to apply for an electric meter. Since the online portal was not working properly, he sent the application by email instead. When I called the utility company, I was told that it would take longer, about 2 weeks, if the application is submitted by email. However, the electrician assured me that we need not worry because he has already sent the email. I am not quite sure how this is supposed to work. Shouldn’t the electrician actually have an electrical distribution board? Isn’t the electric meter included in that? How exactly does the process work? I have already researched but haven’t found a similar case. Can we still start construction?

The electrician does not have calibrated meters in stock. They always have to be ordered from the utility specifically for the project.
With Westnetz, the electrician can have the meter sent directly and install it themselves. This process is usually quite quick. Other utilities send their own meter technicians, which often takes longer.
After installation, it’s best to record the meter reading to avoid any issues later with billing. This happens more often with construction site meters than you might expect.

Thank you very much. Westnetz is exactly our electricity provider, and this morning we received a case ID. I assume we can get the electricity meter installed by Monday. Is that correct?

The start of construction could also be ensured with electricity from the friendly neighbor, if that is necessary.
