Hello everyone,

We recently became proud homeowners. To be precise, we purchased an existing property built in 1974. Now the renovation work can begin.

One topic is the heating system.
The gas system in the basement dates back to 1985 and obviously needs to be replaced.
The heating technician told us that the system is a single-pipe system. Since I’m not familiar with this at all, I started researching.

After comparing the piping diagram and the information I found online, I am beginning to doubt this statement.

I have attached the piping schematic of our system.

I would appreciate your opinions on whether it is a single-pipe or two-pipe system.

Best regards,
Benne

Hello Benne

If it was built exactly as drawn, it is a two-pipe system.

Hello Oli,

thank you for your reply.

From what I understand, there can apparently be deviations between the schematic diagram and the actual implementation. Is there a way to determine from the system itself whether it is a single-pipe or two-pipe system?

This should be recognizable at the radiator connections.
If the supply and return pipes are connected separately to the radiator, it is definitely a two-pipe system.
With compact connection fittings, both types are possible.
Please show a picture of it.
