Hello dear community,

I ordered granite masonry blocks (35cm x 15cm x 15cm) (14 inches x 6 inches x 6 inches). However, these were supposed to be installed in the second row using adhesive only (no mortar). This was also explained to us this way at the showroom.

After a 4-month delivery time, we received the blocks, but unfortunately, the landscaper cannot install them because the deviations sometimes exceed +1cm (0.4 inches).

When I raised a complaint, it was initially dismissed as normal. On the internet, I have usually seen a tolerance specification of ±2mm (±0.08 inches) for sawn masonry blocks. Unfortunately, our building materials supplier did not provide any tolerance information, only the note “sawn.”

After several reminders about the defect, I received an excerpt from the standard
“DIN EN 12058 Natural stone products – Floor slabs – Step coverings,” with the note that ±5mm (±0.2 inches) should be tolerated.

In my opinion, this standard does not apply because I have masonry blocks.

There are also the following standards:
DIN EN 12058 Natural stone products – Blocks for massive construction
DIN EN 771-6 Specifications for masonry units – Part 6: Natural stone

Unfortunately, I do not have access to these to check. Before planning further steps, I would like to understand the product requirements.

Does anyone have experience with this or access to the mentioned standards? I am grateful for any help.

Thank you for your support
