ᐅ Different Window Sill Heights Within a Room

Hello everyone,
We have planned two windows in the children's rooms: a knee wall window and a standard window.
However, according to the plan, the windows have different sill heights. The knee wall window has a sill height of 77 cm (30 inches) and measures 1.73 by 0.62 m (5 ft 8 in by 2 ft), while the other window has a sill height of 90 cm (35 inches) and measures 1.73 by 1.26 m (5 ft 8 in by 4 ft 2 in).
Our knee wall is 1.80 m (5 ft 11 in) high. The knee wall window can be tilted open.
Does the difference in sill heights look odd, or is it hardly noticeable? The windows are not on the same wall but on adjacent walls.
Thanks and best regards

Ask your architect to provide a rendering.

This was already shown in the location mentioned in post #5.

At that spot, I would not only pay attention to the two windows but to all the windows. In many houses, the windows are placed in a chaotic, random way.

In this case, it is indeed a lively mix, but it follows the site’s conditions authentically and, in my opinion, is perfectly fine. However, in my observation, there is sometimes an almost pathological latent dissatisfaction with the balance of façade views, especially among women born around 1986.

No, that probably wouldn’t look odd. Neither from the outside nor the inside. They are two different types of windows, and they are also located in different parts of the building (knee wall and gable side). Don’t worry!

What looks good?

Making everything the same is one approach, while emphasizing “lively differences” is another. Both are perfectly fine, in my opinion.

This is—as so often—the matter of personal taste.

If you haven’t thought much about it yet, it can of course be helpful to learn other people’s opinions. But in the end, the decision always remains your own.

Personally, I often find differences more enjoyable than uniformity, but I also love symmetry (which is a form of uniformity). Sometimes my preference is just a rebellion against restrictive standards… and I think that’s valid too.

What I want to say is: developing your own judgment and being aware that every decision can be seen differently is, in my view, useful and valuable.

What I feel confident saying is: there is no objective beauty or “correctness.”

Thank you very much for your help! We will leave it as it is, I think it is barely noticeable inside and it also looks better from the outside. To be honest, I often find it difficult to imagine the rooms just based on a plan. But I think this works well 🙂

Thank you again and have a nice Sunday!
