I need to create a temporary compacted gravel layer in my outdoor area (until the garden is completed) to serve as a potential fire department access area, approximately 3x3 m (10x10 ft).
Currently, there is only loose soil with significant unevenness. What is the best way to proceed here?
My rough plan:
1. Remove and pile up the soil in the area using a shovel to create a roughly level surface of 3x3 m (10x10 ft).
2. Spread gravel.
3. Use a hand tamper to compact.
Would it be better to compact the soil first before spreading the gravel and then compact again afterward?
Do my steps make sense, or should I do it differently or add something else?
Thank you.
