ᐅ Craftsmen Working Alone at the House

My husband and I often argue when contractors come to the house. On Monday, the balcony door needs to be repaired. That will take some time. On Friday, the plasterers will come to finish plastering the garage. They will need water, which means they also have to go inside the house.

I am self-employed and have to work constantly. My husband can’t just take time off either. Now he always expects me to quickly go home and supervise the contractors.

That’s nonsense. They can work on their own. I don’t have to sit there watching them. But my husband doesn’t want that at all. Instead, he prefers to get the in-laws involved so they can "guard" the house sitting on the sofa at home. Is it such a hassle like this for you too?

Probably also a matter of financial means. Apart from 3 laptops, we don’t have anything worth taking with us. Really nothing. Everything is left in the house. 🙂

Grinning... here, people bring money with them.

After we moved in, a borrowed flower vase went missing. Value: 30€ (about $33). The effort to replace it, including the “reputational damage” with the flower shop, was much greater. Nobody can say where it ended up; all the helpers were trustworthy. It could only have been taken by someone from the items already provided or those not yet brought into the house...

That’s not the point. Then it’s the perfume bottle or the small decorative figurine.
I also want to prevent anyone from wandering around out of curiosity. That’s not unreasonable: many people are curious and look around to see how someone else lives.
I don’t mind if someone feels comfortable at my place and looks around. But then please while talking to me.
Otherwise, the envy factor from someone earning less, combined with the opportunity, can lead to something being spat on or scratched, which we initially wouldn’t even be able to address. No way, thanks [emoji851]

Wow, those are quite significant concerns. Of course, I would also be very upset if they damaged something, like spilling coffee on the sofa or something similar. But would I be able to prevent that just by standing nearby?

Neither in the house. I’m seriously thinking about what could be stolen from us without being noticed right away. Cat food – that would be one option. 🙂
