ᐅ Craftsmen Working Alone at the House

My husband and I often argue when contractors come to the house. On Monday, the balcony door needs to be repaired. That will take some time. On Friday, the plasterers will come to finish plastering the garage. They will need water, which means they also have to go inside the house.

I am self-employed and have to work constantly. My husband can’t just take time off either. Now he always expects me to quickly go home and supervise the contractors.

That’s nonsense. They can work on their own. I don’t have to sit there watching them. But my husband doesn’t want that at all. Instead, he prefers to get the in-laws involved so they can "guard" the house sitting on the sofa at home. Is it such a hassle like this for you too?

@Curly do you have babysitters?

No, we don’t and never have in the past.

I don’t have much trouble letting tradespeople into our house on their own. My husband feels differently about that. But besides books and bulky instruments, there’s nothing really worth stealing here. And somehow, I’m probably just too trusting.

With our previous neighbors, burglars stole all the clothes from the wardrobe, so there’s always something worth stealing.

What do you do with old clothes? You almost feel sorry for burglars if they need old clothes.

Yes, there are probably always things that can be stolen. But I’m only attached to a few items, and they usually have little monetary value. If they were gone, I could live with it. My husband feels differently, though. That’s why this topic is often discussed here.

In a burglary, the material damage is not the main issue. Rather, it is the general feeling of insecurity and the fear that it could happen again while you are at home.
