Hello,
we are currently planning to build a house. We have obtained several quotes. A provider of prefabricated solid houses promised to keep costs as low as possible, but we did not want to give up on geothermal heating and ventilation. Now we have an offer that fits completely within our budget. However, something seems odd to me in the detailed breakdown:
Heating system geothermal heat pump with ground collectors including a decentralized ventilation system for €39,000.
There is no brand or any detailed information about this heating system anywhere. Isn’t this a very expensive system?
What would you expect to pay for a geothermal heat pump and ventilation system? We never requested ground collectors specifically, but usually these are cheaper than drilling, right?

It sounds like a lot, but it’s impossible to assess without specific data about the building. Much more important than the manufacturer or equipment is the overall sizing of the heating and domestic hot water system. If this is not accurate, even the best equipment or brand is of limited use. So ask to see the MEP planning (calculations) and have it reviewed by an independent expert not tied to sales.

Yes, usually, but they also have disadvantages.

How long do you have to live to recoup the heating costs? Using condensing boiler technology (about 8,000 euros) or an air-to-water heat pump (about 10,000 euros) is easier and not that expensive to install, even if you spend 20 euros more per month. The area where you shouldn’t cut costs is thermal insulation.

Just the interest saved from not having to borrow money for the installation already pays off more.
