Hello everyone,
we installed cork flooring in our new build. It is supposed to be a "quality product" from the company Amorim (Cork Essence).

Here are a few pictures. The "joints" are noticeably raised, so you can clearly feel them with your finger. There are also some surface chips already visible (see pictures).

Does anyone have experience with this material? Is this result normal? What could be the possible causes?

The floor is installed over underfloor heating, for which it is allegedly suitable.

If this is really the "normal" result for this type of flooring, I would definitely never use it again...

Gray stone floor with square tiles, clear grout lines, dusty.

Hello everyone,

About three years ago, we had an expensive cork floor with a decorative layer professionally installed over nearly 90 sqm (970 sq ft) and were disappointed shortly afterward.
It is the "MEISTER KORKBODEN CLASSIC KC 85 S," which is marketed as "highly durable for heavily used living areas." That is simply laughable. Surprisingly, the company Meister no longer manufactures cork floors. Why, if it is supposed to be such a great floor???
Never again cork with a decorative layer! If I had known how poor this flooring is, I would never have chosen it.
Our experiences mirror yours, Volker – so much material has already chipped off around the edges, the edges are uneven in height, and our children had countless splinters in their hands and feet during their crawling phase. A complete disaster! Even a keychain or a dropped knife causes severe dents and scratches, and even stiletto heels leave deep marks and ugly dents in this inferior floor.
I am convinced that these issues are mainly due to the decorative layer, and cork floors without such a layer do not have these problems. Surely many here can confirm this?!

Best regards,

Our floor has two layers of cork, but the majority consists of pressed carrier material (HDF) with the wear layer and vinyl layer on top. So far, the floor has seemed very durable to us. This might also be because at 10mm (0.4 inches), the flooring is already quite rigid.

However, it is, of course, not comparable to "pure" cork flooring. It could be that a wear layer made entirely of cork is simply more susceptible to point loads.

But normally, the contours of individual planks should not become noticeable. How was it installed (floating, glued, with/without expansion joints) @th_omas

The floor was installed as a floating floor with expansion joints. The "MEISTER KORKBODEN CLASSIC KC 85 S" has a 2.5mm (0.1 inch) wear layer and a total thickness of 10mm (0.4 inch), making it relatively rigid. Nevertheless, it is an absolute disaster!
