We are currently considering the best way to control our blinds and shutters. Attached are a floor plan and the following explanations:

- There is a basement, but it is operated manually with a strap.
- The ground floor has electric blinds in the large living area (5x), while the rest of the ground floor and the upper floor have electric shutters.
- The house is located on a south-facing slope, meaning if the sun is out, we get sunlight all day until it sets.
- The neighbor is opposite the front door and on the left side of the plan. To the right and below the balcony there are no neighbors, as these areas cannot be built on.
- The windows in the guest and guest bathroom on the ground floor face a street, which is a dead end. Only the neighbor opposite and occasional pedestrians pass by here.
- Of the children’s rooms, one is still free, and the other is occupied by a 3-year-old child.

We have decided on a PLC (programmable logic controller) system with functions for dusk, time, wind, and sun, combined with an indoor temperature sensor. Each motor can also be operated manually via a button. However, we are unsure how many motors to integrate into the control system. Initially, we only planned a control system for the blinds.

Our thoughts:

- Does it make sense to include the entire ground floor? For the windows outside the living area, only the dusk function would be relevant. On the other hand, do we even need that where there is hardly any public traffic?

- Does it make sense to include the entire house, using a similar reasoning as above?

- Does it make sense to only include the children’s rooms due to expected sun exposure? However, these are equipped with shutters that almost completely darken the rooms, and there will likely be different “bedtimes” as well.

Here is the cost aspect:

6x motors 400 EUR
8x motors 475 EUR
10x motors 600 EUR
12x motors 790 EUR

I know there is no one-size-fits-all solution, but I would still be interested in your opinions.

And the cost for the programming is missing. KNX is out for me; it will definitely be a PLC control system.

Just out of curiosity: which PLC will you be using?

Siemens Logo. It comes pre-programmed and ready to use. However, I don’t think I’m allowed to share the link here.
