Our temporary construction power is scheduled to be connected tomorrow. We were informed about this rather last minute, just before the weekend, and at this point, it’s basically impossible for us to be there at the scheduled time. Is it unusual or is it normal for a homeowner not to be present?
We have already asked our neighbors, and they have no objections. My father (who works for the responsible energy provider, though in a completely different department) said that it is probably done by tapping the electricity directly from their connection pillar before it reaches their meter, so that we can then easily settle the account directly with the energy provider without involving our neighbors.

What if your neighbors finish before you and no longer need the construction power? They are long finished. It’s not about connecting to their temporary power box, but rather to their main power supply with our own temporary power box.

They are long finished. The point is not to connect to their temporary power distribution box, but to their main house connection using our own temporary power distribution box. Then that is fine. Our temporary power was connected to a different circuit than the permanent house electricity later on. You just don't want to end up without power on site.
