Falkland-124 Jul 2012 19:35My older building is going to get new windows. I have already spoken with several window installers, and they all want to install the windows using expanding foam and silicone.
However, a tradesperson friend of mine told me that this method is no longer considered state of the art. Nowadays, sealing tapes are used. When I mentioned this to the window installer, they said that sealing tapes are only suitable for new buildings; in older buildings, they cannot be used due to irregular reveal surfaces.

Nowadays, there are also approved sealing foams for window installation. It is important that the window installer uses a foam approved specifically for the purpose of "window installation," not just any general-purpose foam.
