DerPossmann23 Oct 2022 20:27Hello everyone,
We currently have the basement being built, a precast concrete basement.
From the raw floor to the start of the door opening for the basement door, it is 13cm, but with the complete floor build-up, it will be 18cm (7 inches).
The door opening is currently 2.20m (7 ft 3 in) high, and a 2.10m (6 ft 11 in) door is planned. If we reduce the bottom of the door opening by 5cm (from 13 to 18cm) (2 inches), it should still fit well with the clearance for installation.
I’ve read online that such reductions of door openings up to 10cm (4 inches) can be addressed using construction foam and cladding.
Would you recommend this as well, or should we hire a bricklayer/mason?
Best regards,
Christian

Doing it yourself with stone isn't an option? There is more than just expanding foam you can use yourself... Of course, that's an option – the question is just how to best bridge 5cm (2 inches). An alternative would probably be mortar.

To be honest, I haven’t fully understood the problem yet. The floor structure is supposed to be 18 cm (7 inches) and the door opening is 220 cm (87 inches). If the door is 210 cm (83 inches), then you actually have about 8 cm (3 inches) too little space. Why do you want to reduce something there? A sketch (cross-section) would help...
