ᐅ Painting a (concrete) ceiling – is surface preparation necessary?

Hi everyone!

We have a precast concrete ceiling (Filigran slab) and since we decided to do the painting work ourselves, we also need to prepare the ceiling...

There are many different approaches out there.

Priming – filling (joints and surfaces) – applying painting fleece – painting is probably the most thorough and best method.
A friend told us that it’s often enough to just fill the joints and then simply paint... Is this a viable option? Has anyone tried this themselves?

Thank you very much

We filled the joints with construction adhesive, leaving them still visible. Then the ceiling was sanded, primed with an economical paint, and painted twice.

Could you please share some pictures of ceilings that have simply been plastered and painted? I haven’t seen a single one yet that I liked.

I’m generally very satisfied. Only at one joint can you see a slight transition. But I felt like I would have had to apply filler over about half a meter (1.5 feet) in both directions.

The painting itself could have gone a bit better, too. We only painted twice, and in the evening twilight, you can already see some streaks. It’s really quite hard to judge when the result is perfect.

Here are some pictures.
At first glance, it looks like a normally painted wall.
If you look closely, you can see some small holes here and there.
(This could be avoided by filling every little hole, but I didn’t care.)
