Hello,

during my research on building a house, I keep coming across this great forum! We are currently planning to build a single-family house (105m² (1130 sq ft)) with the company Schwörerhaus. Their standard offering includes a ventilation system in every house (which will be a KFW55 standard). You can combine this with a fresh air heating system that provides additional electric heating. My original plan was/is to use a ground source heat probe and a corresponding heat pump. Since I’m not very familiar with building services, I’m wondering if these systems can be combined in any way? I really like Schwörerhaus’s idea of omitting water-based systems (radiators, underfloor heating), but I’m having trouble accepting the idea of heating electrically, as the electricity prices will most likely not go down. Also, we are only in our late 20s and hopefully will live there for 40+ years. Does anyone have experience with this, or am I completely off with my considerations?

Many thanks
Regards, Frank

Well, the ground-source heat pump also operates solely on electricity!

Schwörerhaus’s version is obviously great for the supplier. It’s cheap, easy to install, and can be marketed as something very special. By the way, the fresh air heating system is also a heat pump, but it works as an air-to-air type.

If you want a traditional underfloor heating system and mechanical ventilation with heat recovery, it will become significantly more expensive. Whether it makes sense or not is another question. If it gets cold during your winter and/or you want a really cozy warm temperature, the Schwörerhaus option might struggle with that.

The controlled residential ventilation system is already included, so there is no option to omit it. I would like to avoid traditional underfloor heating (or radiators). I am looking for the best way to support the controlled ventilation system. Fresh air heaters (air-to-air) are said to be noisy and consume a lot of electricity. While it would be possible to compensate with a buffer tank and photovoltaic panels, that looks quite unattractive on the roof, so I would prefer to avoid it.

Then you will run into a problem if you only want to upgrade the air-to-air heat pump. A ground-source heat pump is not an option in this case, since you need underfloor heating for that (as with other heat pumps, too).

There is a reason why Schwörerhaus offers additional features as optional extras (brine heat exchanger, water-circulated wood stove).

You will have to accept one compromise or the other...
