Hello everyone,

I’ve been struggling for months with the question of how to color our old farmhouse. My image searches haven’t really helped. Our roof is covered with natural red clay tiles. We also want wooden windows and have an old front door that we plan to refresh. I’ve considered painting the front door in a different color than the windows. Does anyone have ideas, pictures, etc., on how to create a harmonious color scheme for the house (roof, windows, door, facade)? I definitely don’t want a white or gray house, and the colors should naturally suit the old building (so no bright or flashy tones).

I’m grateful for any advice. Oh, and I just noticed… window sills come in many different colors.

Thanks to everyone!

I also think you need to see the entire house for that. Otherwise, it cannot be properly assessed. We do not know the exact color of your roof, your windows, etc.

Depending on the year the house was built, different plaster textures can be used on the facade, but this also depends on the region.

with empty window openings and no door, but we did nail some nice cupboard backs in front of the windows 😀
What does that mean?

This is how it looked when we bought it:
The roof is now covered with natural red beaver tail tiles, and the grapevine has been removed. We are also considering exposing the timber framing on the upper floor. But since the plaster hasn’t been removed yet, I need to check first if it looks good underneath 😀

Very nice! Not spoiled by modern renovations.
Is there a local design guideline? Or you could ask the heritage conservation office. Or carefully check under the bottom layer of paint on the door.
