Hello everyone,

I have a difficult issue –

Our construction has started, and today I went to the building site with the kids. I met the foreman directly, and then another guy showed up saying, “…and this is the second foreman”…

I was completely shocked – the man who will be working on our house for some time is someone we know, and unfortunately, we do not get along at all!

We don’t feel comfortable having him involved with our house. On one hand, because he might deliberately cause problems, and on the other hand, because he will likely gossip in our small town.

So, what should we do now? I would be interested in your opinions…

What exactly does that mean? The contractor? The foreman?
If possible, get rid of them so you can sleep peacefully. But won’t that just cause more gossip?

By the way, envy is the highest form of admiration!

Maybe I didn’t express myself clearly and I may come across as arrogant, but this man doesn’t wish us any good.. And we are not building a villa, but a regular single-family house.

Outside of the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland, I have very rarely heard the term "Capo," and never for a foreman in Germany. The fact that two craftsmen present would both be foremen is quite an impressive qualification rate.

If simply knowing who owns a basic single-family house is considered gossip-worthy information, the village must be extremely small—basically so small that everyone already knows because they are related or connected by marriage to almost everyone else.

But judging by the other comments here, I’m probably not the only one who doesn’t quite understand what the drama is about.

You have received advice from two people here to remove him.

1. It doesn’t matter, 2. no one is claiming that you are building a villa.

So what? He is supposed to work for you, and if he doesn’t do it properly, you bring out the whip. I don’t think his employer (or is he a self-employed craftsman?) would tolerate poor work.
