ᐅ Is it possible to paint these doors or door frames? Or to replace them?

Hello everyone,
We are considering replacing the doors since we are also planning to refinish the floors and paint. Due to a limited budget, we are thinking about keeping the doors in the basement or possibly painting the door frames and only replacing the door panels. I suspect the surface is a plastic veneer (see photo), probably not wood. For the basement, affordable door panels from a hardware store would probably be sufficient. Upstairs, our renovation contractor recommended Prüm doors. My question is: How do these differ from, say, the better hardware store doors?
Here are photos showing the entire door

I believe your door issue has come up before. I had recommended self-adhesive film. Otherwise, I would have left the basement as it is for now.@Ysop*** Can you recommend a specific film? I would like to try it on the door frames in our basement.Regarding your question, yes, from the photo it looks more like synthetic wood rather than real wood veneer. But you can tell for sure if you lightly sand it. Let’s assume it is plastic. In that case, please clean it thoroughly with soapy water and degrease with denatured alcohol. Light sanding with around 120 grit or slightly finer, then dust off well, apply alkyd resin paint of your choice—preferably satin finish, as high gloss leaves no room for error. Use a mohair roller, specifically one made from short-pile teddy fabric, and roll it on. If it’s white, one coat should be enough.
Why alkyd resin paint? Because you can thin it slightly with universal thinner, which helps it flow smoothly and makes it easier even for beginners to achieve a nice, even surface. Water-based acrylic paints do dry hard and don’t emit strong fumes, but their flow is poor. As a result, the finish often isn’t very smooth—orange peel texture, for example.

HubiTrubi407 Mar 2022 00:47Thank you! Now, another question. Is it possible to install a glass door (a hinged door, not a wooden door with a glass panel) into a standard wooden door frame? I would reinforce the area behind the hinges. Is it possible to combine this with a standard wooden frame according to DIN standards?

Thanks and best regards

@Ysop*** can you recommend a specific membrane? I would like to try it on the door frames in our basement.Unfortunately, my husband forgot the company. However, the membrane was not completely smooth; it was white with a kind of wood texture.
