Hello,

we currently do not have air conditioning in our house, but we want to add a 2-zone multisplit system for the upper floor. Since we have a roof overhang of just over one meter (about 3.3 feet) with exposed beams, and today I found a very inconspicuous but technically suitable spot for the lines, the idea came up to simply hang the outdoor unit on the roof beams in front of the wall. That way, I wouldn't need to drill into the wall for mounting brackets and could just have a local metalworker weld a frame for mounting on the beams.

Has anyone possibly done this before? Google hasn’t been very helpful. Unfortunately, I have no experience with how much such an outdoor unit "buzzes," meaning whether any noises would transfer to the roof structure and thus to the house despite rubber vibration isolators.

Our unit is installed on the roof (an older building from 1900) and when it’s running, it can already be heard in the room directly below. This is despite using a mounting bracket with vibration dampers! The noise level is manageable, but you should expect that some noise will be audible. How loud it will be is probably difficult to predict.

Our outdoor unit is also installed on a bracket with vibration dampers on the roof of an older building.

The outdoor unit cannot be heard inside the building, not even in the room directly below. From outside, the unit can be heard as a slight humming noise, but it is hardly noticeable.
