Hello everyone,

My husband and I have been looking for a suitable building plot for some time now. We recently came across a plot that is almost perfect: great location, price and size fit our plans.

Unfortunately, there is a high-voltage power line about 100m (330 feet) away from the plot.

Should we be concerned about this? Do such power lines produce noise when they carry a strong current? So far, we haven't noticed anything, but we’re not sure if we were just near it at the wrong times. What about the term "electrosmog"? Could a high-voltage power line be harmful to health or cause disturbances in any way?

I would appreciate any experiences and tips you might share.

Best regards,
Nixa

Out of personal interest, I googled a few times today and concluded that there are hundreds of studies with varying results. These findings are certainly not entirely independent of the respective study sponsors.

In private settings, it seems possible to shield oneself only from electric fields, not from magnetic fields. This also highlights the contradiction of those who fear high-voltage power lines but wear magnetic bracelets.

Interestingly, when looking at exposure tests by the BFS, craftsmen appear to be more at risk than people living under high-voltage power lines.

Overall, a weekly visit to a bar where smoking occurs seems to be significantly more dangerous.

I don’t want to defend high-voltage power lines here. However, if you want to live with low electromagnetic pollution, you have to consider a number of other factors. I would be curious to know how much an induction cooktop emits.
