Hello everyone,
We are currently planning our new house, and at the moment, I’m thinking about our shower. We are not including a bathtub, so the shower should be as comfortable as possible. The shower is a spacious 160x100 cm (63x39 inches). We have also planned a built-in bench. However, the designer specified dimensions of 100x35x45 cm (39x14x18 inches) (W x D x H). In hindsight, the depth of 35 cm (14 inches) seems quite shallow to me. I would prefer not to touch the cold tiles when sitting there. Therefore, there should be enough space between the back and the wall while seated.
What depth is generally recommended for a bench like this? At the moment, I tend to lean towards 45 cm (18 inches), or possibly even 50 cm (20 inches).
Best regards,
Martin

Allthewayup21 Jun 2023 19:22We have planned a seating depth of approximately 45cm (18 inches) and a width of 90cm (35 inches). The partition to the toilet will be remodeled, so the attached plan does not yet reflect the dimensions mentioned above.
The shower is 1.1m (3 ft 7 in) wide and 1.8m (5 ft 11 in) deep overall, so splash water is not an issue, and a walker or wheelchair can be moved further back if needed to avoid getting completely wet. We have decided to use a mineral casting shower tray measuring 1.6 x 1.1m (5 ft 3 in x 3 ft 7 in). It has the advantage of eliminating sealing issues caused by grout joints becoming leaky over time. The material is homogeneously colored (repairs can be made with color-matched synthetic resin if damaged), and the surface of the chosen tray is quite rough (slip-resistant).
