Hello everyone,
We have received a quote for paving our terrace and the pathway around the house, as well as leveling the ground on the property.
It includes:
- Delivery, installation, and compaction of 30m3 (39 cubic yards) of fill sand
- 55 m2 (592 square feet) of sand base layer, topped with a fine base of crushed sand and gravel
- 20 m2 (215 square feet) of simple rectangular concrete pavers (for the pathway around the house)
- 35 m2 (377 square feet) of basalt antique concrete pavers (a bit more decorative) for the terrace
- Installation of 40m (131 feet) of lawn edging stones
- 5 hours of excavator / wheel loader work for distributing and leveling the ground on the property
The terrace will be rectangular with one rounded side. I will attach a photo.
The total quote is around 5700€ including VAT.
Does this seem reasonable or too expensive?

Is cutting stones and borders included? That can get expensive quickly with curves... Yes, that should be included. That’s why we only chose one rounded corner. More curves would be too expensive for me at the start.
I would like to have many flowing lines in the garden, but right now we’re not quite sure where this will lead, and we don’t have much extra budget for it.

Your price gives me hope that we might be able to have the outdoor area professionally done as well, without having to handle the heavy work ourselves. Our provider is from Northern Germany. He already paved the area in front of the house for us (yard, driveway, and path, plus under/behind the carport) and installed the sanitary sewer pipes.
So I know he delivers solid work; otherwise, I would be skeptical since many people say the price is low here.
The initial paving work in the yard cost about 9200€ (around 10,000 USD), but that included everything: 131m2 (1411 ft2) of paving, concrete set lawn edging, and all cutting work. The only thing that made it a bit more expensive was our rounded front door platform with granite palisades around it. Without this “decoration,” it would have been somewhat cheaper.
I’m joining the discussion regarding price comparison—perhaps it would be helpful if a professional could also provide an assessment (as far as this can be judged based on materials alone). All prices are net.
The hourly rate for the excavator and skilled labor, as well as delivery and installation of the paving, don’t seem exaggerated to me, but a large part of the rest...
