Hello,

we are considering buying a mid-terrace house (145 sqm (1560 sq ft) living space; basement planned without heating, but we want to heat the large basement room; shed roof) in Neustadt a. W. The heat would be provided by a newly installed combined heat and power (CHP) unit. We looked at what the owners of the terraced houses in the nearby development, built by the same developer a few years ago, are paying and were quite shocked.

They pay €810.35 per year plus an additional €210.98 per year for the first 10 years. On top of that are the annual metering service fees of €85.84. That makes a total of €1,107.17 per year. If we also add the expected energy consumption costs, we will have higher expenses than in our current rented terraced house, which is 25 years old and uses an electric instantaneous water heater.

Friends of ours pay just under €500, but they are connected to an existing CHP unit.

How do you assess this price? Does it only seem high to us because we lack experience, or is it actually expensive?

Best regards,

Just calculate the cost of having your own heating system (materials, installation, space requirements). What is the contract duration for the combined heat and power unit?
