Hello everyone,
I recently assembled an IKEA Hemnes wardrobe myself and found that some of the assembly steps were unexpectedly tricky. My question to the community is: Are there any common assembly mistakes that happen frequently with the IKEA Hemnes? I am particularly interested in typical pitfalls that are easy to overlook or that often cause issues during construction — whether due to incorrectly positioned parts, imprecise drilling, or unclear instructions.
For example, I noticed that the screws for the back panel sometimes don’t fit optimally, and getting the wardrobe doors properly aligned can be challenging. Does anyone know of typical mistakes that regularly occur during assembly? And are there any tips on how to avoid these, so the end result is a stable and visually flawless piece of furniture?
Thanks in advance for your insights and experiences!

I want to offer some encouragement in case anyone feels uncertain at the beginning like you did: The Hemnes is not difficult, it’s just that the instructions are often a bit brief.
I experienced the same at first—especially with the doors, it can feel confusing when they don’t fit perfectly right away. I think it’s important to stay calm and assemble the cabinet step by step.
A small tip for the hinges: if a door still doesn’t close properly after adjustment, loosening them a bit and then realigning can help. Sometimes it takes two or three tries to get the alignment right—that’s completely normal!
I’m familiar with your observation about the slightly inconsistent holes; that’s something that can be unsettling in the beginning. But with the combination of dowels, screws, and adjustable hinges, it can usually be compensated for. Keep your spirits up—next time everything will fit better!
