I recently bought a Malm nightstand from Ikea and now face the assembly, which to be honest feels a bit overwhelming. Therefore, my question to the community: Are there any effective tips or proven methods that make assembling the Malm nightstand significantly easier or faster? I’m especially interested in advice on the often fiddly screws and joints, the proper handling of the slats, and whether anyone recommends special tools beyond the included Allen wrench.

I wonder if you could actually save more time by organizing the parts and thoroughly studying the instructions beforehand, rather than relying on simple tips like “only tighten screws by hand.” That’s basically standard advice.
What I question is: Is it really efficient to buy extra tools before even starting, or shouldn’t you be able to expect that the hardware included with such a common product line is sufficient?
So the real “trick” might be to carefully analyze the instructions, mentally go through all the steps, and only then get started. This way, you avoid mistakes that end up costing more time than those supposed little helpers.
That’s my opinion; I’m open to other perspectives.
