When I was in the utility room today, I was a bit shocked. Suddenly, the heat pump was already installed, BUT next to it, mounted under the ceiling, was a "vessel." That actually shocked me even more. In my previous research, I had never come across a vessel used in connection with an air-to-water heat pump (I had only seen it used with a gas boiler), so I wonder if it could have been avoided. Do you have something like this as well, and how exactly does this expansion vessel— as I later found out—help me?

We have something similar as well, but our heat pump is not a split system, and it measures about 80cm x 80cm x 200cm (31.5 inches x 31.5 inches x 79 inches), so there is plenty of space. However, it is necessary.

Heating water naturally expands when heated. If you want a warm house, you need various components in the system, including an expansion vessel (MAG - membrane expansion tank).

You will probably have two by now; there will also be a small expansion vessel in your air-to-water heat pump. We have two as well—it could be worse.
