ᐅ Initial costs of a gas heating system, energy-efficient heat supply

WinkliHello everyone.
We are about to buy a house. The gas heating system, like the house, is from 1988. It works, but the question is whether there is a "better / more energy-efficient" heating system available.
Now to my questions: What are the purchase and installation costs of a new gas heating system? Online, I only find estimates of "4,000 - 5,000 €." Shouldn't the amount rather be around 10,000 €? Unfortunately, I am not familiar with this topic...
Can someone help me?
Thanks in advance!!!

Hello,
It is highly advisable to consult an independent expert here, but not the installer of a new system—older systems often turn out to be money pits.
By the way, ask for an energy performance certificate according to energy-saving regulations for the building! While it is not suitable for sizing the heating system, it provides insights into the primary energy overall condition.
Best regards.
Winkli schrieb:Modern gas condensing boilers are naturally more efficient due to their use of the condensation heat. However, the overall system concept (heating surfaces, hydraulics, components, domestic hot water preparation) is also very important. If these elements do not work well together, the benefits of modern technology are often disappointing and do not justify the investment costs. When choosing a system, heating load and the lower modulation limit are important. The main energy consumption depends on the building’s energy status, climate location, and user behavior. Alternatively, other heat generators such as an air-source heat pump could be considered, although investment costs and specific site requirements tend to be higher.

Winkli schrieb:Almost any figure is possible here, as no one knows the condition of the entire system. Good gas condensing boilers for single-family houses can be found for around 3,000 € including installation. However, if extensive modifications to the system are necessary, costs of 10,000 € will certainly be reached.

Hello Winkli,
When buying a house, definitely ask for an energy performance certificate, as €uro mentioned. There might also be an energy demand certificate available, which provides a good overview of the building’s energy condition.
A heating system that is 22 years old is certainly not new, so replacing it makes sense both for cost savings and for ensuring reliable supply.
A simple system replacement can be carried out for a relatively low cost of around 4,000–5,000 euros. The modernization pays off in just 4.8 years.
