Hello everyone!

I wanted to ask which potato varieties you like to plant. We usually grow the same red-skinned Rosella with yellow flesh every year. We are really enthusiastic about this variety. It is waxy and, above all, very flavorful. Plus, it is versatile in cooking. Last year, we also tried Blue Congo as an experiment. Unfortunately, it was no good because it fell apart after just 10 minutes of boiling. Cooking time — whether salted or as boiled potatoes — it turned into a complete mush in the pot. Besides that, it’s hard to spot when digging it up because the tubers are almost black 🙄. We have also grown Bamberger Hörnchen, which are very tasty. Well, and of course the good old Linda.

Best regards,
Shey

Potato Varieties: Nicola, Princess, Sieglinde

Hello Murmelchen!

So, I’m currently looking after my potatoes at my parents’ farm 🙄

They have Quarta! An excellent potato. It’s great for salad, casseroles, basically for boiling and so on.

I also like Nicola, Princess, and Sieglinde. They are very good for salad, too. I prefer the somewhat waxy varieties the most.

Nothing else comes to mind right now!

Best regards from Claudi, who wants to specialize in pumpkins 😀

Depends on what you want to use the potatoes for. I love potato salad, and for that, the Sieglinde variety is still the absolute best.

Quarta Potatoes

I’m not familiar with the "Quarta" variety at all.

Most of our garden beds have to be used for potatoes, since we need them for everything! Even when they don’t really go with the dish, lol.

Is the Quarta variety more of a floury (mealy) type? Where can you get them?

- Hi Ninja -

I just quickly called the people who take care of my potatoes!

You can buy the Quarta variety at Raiffeisen/BayWa.

It’s somewhere between floury and waxy. So a middle ground, and in my opinion suitable for many uses. The yield is said to be very good – though of course this also depends on the soil conditions. Size is medium to large. The harvest time is somewhat later, but not very late. We now grow only this variety. Some time ago we still had two or three varieties.

Nicola, Ostara, and Bintje

Hello,
last year I tried growing three varieties...
Nicola, as every year, Ostara, and Bintje...

I think the best part about gardening is that sometimes something doesn’t go very well—last year for me it was the tomatoes—but then usually something else grows “better” instead 😎. Just like last year with my potatoes. They were simply fantastic...

But there isn’t much that can really go wrong with those anyway^^
