ᐅ Paint the steel staircase yourself or leave it to the painter?

Hello everyone,
we have purchased a newly built semi-detached house with steel staircases (basement, ground floor, first floor, attic). The stairs are still in their raw state and need to be painted.
We originally planned to do this ourselves to save costs, but that can only happen after the handover of the keys. The stairwell will already be finished by the painter beforehand.
What are your experiences? Is it worth doing it yourself? Of course, I don’t want to damage the fresh finish of the stairwell. Although we could still paint the stair treads.
Or is the cost-benefit ratio not favorable here because it is quite time-consuming and not so easy for a layperson?
There are a total of three staircases, and the painter wants nearly 3000 euros for the work.

I look forward to your suggestions and tips.

Water-based paint on a steel staircase? Was it factory-primed?

I have to smile a bit at the answers.

We painted our steel stringer staircase ourselves: it was easier than painting a wall or a room and went quite quickly. In our case, the temporary steps stayed on – why not? – after all, they cover exactly what will be covered later.

Am I correct in assuming it is primed (reddish-brown matte)? Then just use a round brush and apply the paint to your liking.

Tape off the fittings beforehand; I think that’s the most complicated part 😉

Please do yourself a favor and use a paint roller instead of a round brush. Then I’ll smile back @ypg.

Of course, you decide how much effort to put in and what result you want. We had it done professionally. I’m not going to complain because I didn’t feel like doing the work myself, and I believe we paid less than 200€ for it. But if I had done it myself, the result would have been better.

Yes, it was installed like that in our case. However, it is supposedly not a “real” primer. Of course, I’m not really an expert on this.

We sanded it a little (just for appearance) and then applied two coats of paint.

Yes, exactly, it was primed with a reddish primer.
