ᐅ Paint the steel staircase yourself or leave it to the painter?

Hello everyone,
we have purchased a newly built semi-detached house with steel staircases (basement, ground floor, first floor, attic). The stairs are still in their raw state and need to be painted.
We originally planned to do this ourselves to save costs, but that can only happen after the handover of the keys. The stairwell will already be finished by the painter beforehand.
What are your experiences? Is it worth doing it yourself? Of course, I don’t want to damage the fresh finish of the stairwell. Although we could still paint the stair treads.
Or is the cost-benefit ratio not favorable here because it is quite time-consuming and not so easy for a layperson?
There are a total of three staircases, and the painter wants nearly 3000 euros for the work.

I look forward to your suggestions and tips.

Yes, that’s exactly how it was installed for us. However, it’s supposedly not a “real” primer. Of course, I’m not really an expert on this.

In our case, our paint still adheres excellently – we were told that this acts as the primer and rust protection.

Which makes sense, since stairs are usually installed while construction is still ongoing and there is a lot of moisture present.
I'm way too picky to do something like that myself. 😀

Please do yourself a favor and use a paint roller instead of a round brush. Then I'll smile back @ypg

That’s what he writes… about a primed staircase!

I recommend Grönemeyer with
"Alcohol is your paramedic in an emergency
(Alcohol) is your parachute and your lifeboat."

Instead of sanding the primer, cleaning (dust removal) with isopropanol is sufficient. Please do not drink. 😉

That’s coming up for me as well. I even stocked up on Bosch Blue tools just for this. Please don’t tell my wife that it was unnecessary....

Does anyone have any before-and-after pictures, possibly including work in progress?
