During my search for a "suitable" wood stove, a few options caught my attention. They are all small, as a larger stove would not be practical.

Brunner, Iron Dog 1
Jotul, F 602
Nordpeis, Orion
and Nordpeis, ME Wall

For the intended use, I like the "Iron Dog One" the most. However, I can’t find any reports worldwide from someone who actually owns one.

The chances might not be good, but I’ll give it a try:

Does anyone know it?

My sister has the Brunner Iron Dog 7, and it is really beautiful and easily heats the 50 m² (540 sq ft) living room. I grew up with the Jotul. It is a wonderful classic!

By now, my knowledge—or rather—my questions about a stove have grown.

As far as I know, the Iron Dog does not have a firebrick (refractory brick) lining.
Apparently, a fire surrounded by cast iron does not get as hot as one with firebrick, which in turn is less favorable for flue gas emissions...

I am also now considering an inset fireplace. We could design it ourselves (my wife is a sculptor) and might have more freedom in choosing the insert because the appearance would matter less.
At the moment, I’m wondering why there are only inserts with at least 8 kW (a stove should not be too small, but especially not too large either, the latter due to combustion values).
Perhaps the kW ratings are calculated differently because not only the stove but also the stone surrounding it is heated?

ah ... just got the first reply ... thanks.
I found a lot of praise for the "Iron Dog," but the Iron Dog ONE is nowhere to be found ... 🙄

I have also come to really appreciate the construction style of the Jotul (freestanding box stove) elsewhere. It can hold longer logs, is compact and effective – and you can heat something on top of it....

No, but Brunner models generally receive consistent praise.

Who cares about the kW rating? The stove has to appeal to you. The heating output mainly depends on how much fuel you put in and whether the heat is stored. 14 kW works fine even in a fairly small room if it’s just about the appearance and the heat simply goes up the chimney.

The stove has to look good

Yes, ... but a stove that uses more wood ... and produces more "dirt" than necessary, I just don’t like that as much ...

but you’re right ... you can also take it too far 😉

.... the temperature also affects the soot on the glass ...

............. but that heating has to be so complicated 😡
