Hello.
We are currently interested in stair step lighting. Our staircase is U-shaped, and we would like to install recessed spotlights in the wall above the steps. However, arranging the lights is causing us some difficulties since we have no experience with this type of lighting.
We have illustrated two possible layouts for the spotlights. Does anyone know the best way to implement this? I am a bit concerned about potential shadows, and we also do not want to install a spotlight above every single step.
We look forward to your advice.

First of all, it depends on the size of the spotlights. Depending on their specifications, you’ll need more or fewer of them.
By the way, when measuring later, you use the stringer as the reference, not the stair tread itself. Ours, for example, is curved.
For the length, we also based it on the overall staircase length as it was installed and excluded the wall.
Here are two photos I found again.

If you are a millimeter enthusiast, be prepared for the fact that with a concrete staircase, the spotlights are never positioned exactly the same. Unless they are installed after the tile work!

Due to the varying thickness of the mortar bed that the tiler applies to achieve a level staircase, the steps can shift by several centimeters (inches).

Good morning. This was also told to us by the tiler. We don’t have an issue with that. I’m only interested in the shadow effect—whether the recessed lights should be planned centered over a stair tread or positioned directly between two stair treads.
I’m a bit concerned that if the lights are centered over a stair tread, the step below might just cast a shadow.

Is the stair lighting independently switchable? Are there any other light sources for the "stairwell"?

There are two wall lamps in the stair area. They are intended to be switched together with the stair step lighting.
