Hello.
We are currently interested in stair step lighting. Our staircase is U-shaped, and we would like to install recessed spotlights in the wall above the steps. However, arranging the lights is causing us some difficulties since we have no experience with this type of lighting.
We have illustrated two possible layouts for the spotlights. Does anyone know the best way to implement this? I am a bit concerned about potential shadows, and we also do not want to install a spotlight above every single step.
We look forward to your advice.

Good morning. This is what the tiler told us as well. We have no problem with that. I'm just wondering about the shadow casting—whether the spots should be planned centered above a stair tread or directly between two treads.
I’m a bit concerned that if the light is centered above a tread, the step below might only receive a shadow. That’s exactly what our electrician recommended. That’s why we did it this way.
However, I can only tell you the result once the lights are installed and the stair covering is in place.

There are two additional wall lights in the staircase area. They should be switched on at the same time as the stair step lighting. In that case, I wouldn’t do it. The beautiful stair lighting would get overshadowed. I would switch them separately so you can also have "indirect" accent lighting.
So, a concrete staircase with tiles? Do you install baseboard tiles? That might make option 2 look busier. But of course, it’s all a matter of personal taste.
