Hello everyone,

We will most likely be able to build our new single-family house without individual room controls. Fortunately, we were able to discuss this with our construction company.

Specifically, a CHA Monoblock air-to-water heat pump will be used. Since I have limited trust in our heating technician, I would like to ask two or three questions here:

1. What exactly should be considered when designing the heat pump system without individual room controls? Specifically, I am interested in where it makes the most sense to install an indoor sensor. My understanding is that we need one for controlling the heat pump. Are there other points we should be aware of?

2. The heat pump can also actively cool. We would like to use the cooling function in summer as well. What should be taken into account here? Does each heating circuit require a condensation sensor? And does the heat pump automatically switch to cooling when it detects that the room temperature is significantly above the set temperature?

Finally, if we do decide to include individual room controls, which models would you recommend that support the cooling function but do not cost too much if possible?

I hope the questions are clear and not too "basic."

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Not at all. What for, if the heating system is properly calibrated.

I haven’t looked into the cooling function so far. In my opinion, it’s not really worth it – 1-2 degrees cooler and a cooler floor? Better to plan for an air conditioning system directly.

My heating technician suggested installing a room temperature controller with a sensor in the main living area to comply with the energy saving regulations. It can either be left fully on at all times, or after installation I can remove the actuators and just let the controller remain on the wall unused...

It must be controlled based on the outdoor temperature, which is why only an outdoor sensor should be used.

Anything else does not make sense.

1. It is possible to do, but not necessary.

2. What you are planning is called passive cooling and is not related to active cooling.

Air-to-water heat pumps can only provide active cooling. Brine-to-water heat pumps can also provide passive cooling. The Wolf CHA therefore only offers active cooling.

2. Yes, cooling works similarly to heating but in reverse. It’s necessary to measure the dew point either everywhere or at the location where the temperature is lowest or humidity is highest, for example, a cold bedroom next to the bathroom... It is best to disable ERR.
