ᐅ Is the real estate market increasingly forcing families to build their own homes?

Actually, we would prefer to avoid building. Unfortunately, existing properties within a 20 km (12 miles) radius have become quite expensive, and affordable rental houses with small gardens are simply scarce.
Until now, we have been living in an old rental apartment without a garden. We would like to change that, but there is a lack of options. The listings on various platforms are overcrowded with families looking for affordable housing.
Who is familiar with this situation, and how do you deal with it?

I never claimed that private individuals with single-family homes want to protect the climate. Society as a whole aims to protect the climate (of course, without personal restrictions).
Anyway, politics then creates regulations for low energy consumption to achieve climate protection goals. Those who disagree can vote differently. For example, for the AfD. Without wanting to start a major discussion about political parties, I have to say that the AfD has to be tolerated, just like any other party. If over 50% vote for the AfD, then that is simply the will of the people. Period. In that case, the popular will is based on opinions rather than science. That’s how democracy works.

1) Student protests: The students want Fridays off from school. That’s it. Their leader is a seriously ill autistic person.
2) Consensus, solid house. So what. Everyone can build one if they want. Why have regulations forcing people to build in a certain way? A Polish industrial house, perfectly fine there, double-glazed, 80,000 euros ex works, isn’t allowed here because of our laws.
3) Building plan is fine, but without arbitrary requirements based on taste. It’s my country. And if I want to plant palm trees there, no matter how impractical that may be, I want to plant palm trees.

And by protesting on Fridays instead of the weekend, they gain influence. Otherwise, they simply wouldn't be noticed. It’s a clever way to use the media’s attention management.
I’ll kindly say nothing about the worthless rest of your point 1...

Sure, plan B, but without arbitrary aesthetic regulations. Anything visible from outside automatically becomes a matter of taste. Expecting a perfect solution is simply impossible.

It’s my land. And if I want to plant palm trees there, no matter how unreasonable it may seem, I want to plant palm trees. The laws that apply to society also apply on your land, not just your wishes. I have nothing against palm trees, but where is the limit where a landowner’s will must be restricted? There definitely is one somewhere.
