Dear members,

As I already mentioned in the introduction thread, my wife, our 20-month-old daughter, and I are about to start building our house. We have purchased a plot of land, and the plans have already been prepared by the architect and approved by the authorities. Since we are not working with a general contractor, I have to handle many things myself.

Now, regarding the topic: yesterday we visited Heinze to choose the bathroom fixtures. It is quite a large bathroom (16sqm (172 sqft)) and we want a freestanding bathtub. I would like to know if you can recommend specific models or brands.

Our current favorite is Hoesch Namur. Unfortunately, I have heard little to nothing about this company and am unsure whether Villeroy & Boch or Duravit might be the better choice.
I also liked Duravit’s Luv series and Villeroy & Boch’s Theano as well as their New Generation series.

Does anyone here have a freestanding bathtub and can recommend a particular model or advise against certain brands or models?
Thank you in advance for any tips!

Best regards,
Matthias

I have no knowledge about brands or models. However, I can share my opinion on how to choose: I would primarily focus on comfort. That means trying them out by lying down, possibly both at the same time if you plan to use it regularly together. While doing so, really try to settle in as you would in a full bathtub. For example, I only realized quite late that I would never lie or sit as upright in the tub as I did when testing it. I almost chose a bathtub that was too short but noticed just in time that when settling in or sliding down, my knees would stick too far out of the water.

I can only agree 100% with Maria. We also have a freestanding bathtub and chose it solely based on appearance. However, almost all of them were extremely uncomfortable. We then decided on the Hoesch Spectra freestanding model and are completely satisfied.

I happened to see two yesterday (hardware store), and they looked very stylish on the outside... so nicely egg-shaped. They were very deep and didn’t have any backrest angle. So, you can probably only sit on them rather than lie down comfortably...

Thank you all for your input! I agree with you that comfort is more important than appearance. Of course, the best option would be both. I’m currently shifting from Hoeach Namur to Hoesch Cabo, which somehow looks a bit more comfortable.

Has anyone here ever sat in the Cabo by chance?
