Hello everyone,

Unfortunately, some of our wastewater pipes are partially located outside the dimensions of the concrete slab.

Now the idea has come up to open the slab in the area of the 10 KG pipes DN 100 and install Hauff connection funnels AT 100 there. These would then be cast in when the openings are closed.

Leaving costs aside, is it feasible to open the concrete slab without problems? Can the slab suffer significant damage from breaking it up, or is this generally no issue? Would new structural calculations or other documentation be required for this?

Is it even practical to install the connection funnels afterward (the funnels have a diameter of 360 mm (14 inches))? The area that needs to be broken out is not exactly small.

Thank you very much for your help.

Who came up with the idea? Has the construction manager actually looked at it, or did the idea just occur to you on Saturday evening at 10 pm?

You know this is a question/problem for professionals, not for homeowners!

And I would definitely consult with the prefabricated house manufacturer as well.

Yes, the site manager has inspected it. However, he has little interest since the foundation slab is considered a “self-performed task” and he does not professionally assess the slab. The foundation slab contractor issued a technical supervisor’s declaration, and for the site manager, that settles the matter.

During yesterday’s meeting at the foundation slab, the contractor said the slab would simply be broken open if necessary.

But as the client, I have some doubts and naturally question this.

I am looking for the best solution. I find the connection funnels a neat approach, but with 10 openings of that size, I still have some reservations.

According to the foundation slab contractor, “it’s no problem” and everything can be done that way. However, he said this before and then did it incorrectly.

He is not supposed to assess it professionally but to clearly specify which connections actually need to be installed.

Then review the contract with the foundation slab contractor. Did they have the correct drawings, etc.?

Whether the solution is technically sound will likely only be determined by an expert.
