Hello everyone,

We are about to paint the floating cement screed in our basement. Since it is just a utility/laundry room, we plan to use a single-component cement screed floor paint. Do you have any product recommendations for this?

Before painting, we thought about priming first with a primer. Do you think a standard primer from a hardware store would be sufficient, or should we use special two-component epoxy primers? (These are quite expensive, though.)

Our main question is how to best close the gap where the edge insulation strip (looks like blue foam) is sticking out.
- Should we cut it flush and fill the cove joint with acrylic? If yes, how many days or weeks before painting would you recommend filling it in, considering that acrylic shrinks?
- Or should we cut it flush and fill it with polyurethane filler?

The drying process of our screed was completed on January 1st and, according to the builder, it is ready for floor covering. However, there is a PE foil under the screed.

Do you have any other suggestions?

This was about an outdoor area, but still worth a look:

Some people use baseboards here, which is a bit unusual. There are also very subtle cove moldings, or you can use kitchen countertop trims. These come in all shapes and colors, sometimes even with a sealing lip.

Otherwise, without any covering: I would prefer silicone over acrylic.

Special 2K epoxy primers work
What does the paint manufacturer or the technical datasheet say? Using a 2K primer with a 1K paint isn’t always the best option.
