Is a garage door width of 2.25m (7 ft 5 in) sufficient to drive a mid-sized car through?

Theoretically yes.
Comfortably, no.
Many cars, including side mirrors, are just over 2 meters (6.5 feet) wide.

It’s going to be tight. You might want to measure it. A 3-series BMW is just under 2000mm (79 inches) wide, an Audi A6 is 2090mm (82 inches), and a Ford S-Max is 2160mm (85 inches). Of course, you can still fold in the side mirrors, but whether that’s really desirable… No, I would invest in a wider gate.

It depends on the car. A Sharan won’t fit through unless the mirrors are folded in. With a Passat, it’s likely to be very tight (if it fits at all).

Is it possible to align the car straight ahead before entering the garage, or does one have to approach at an angle? If the latter, then the space definitely needs to be wider. In the first case, precision is crucial, or you might need to replace side mirrors more often.
