What would you do differently in your next house build? (For us, there won’t be a next time, but I think beginners can benefit from our experience.) Please stay on topic and avoid lengthy discussions (feel free to start a new thread for that)!
I’ll start:
* Electrician: A network connection in every room isn’t necessary; nowadays everyone uses Wi-Fi, which is perfectly sufficient.
* Us: OK, then we’ll install one network connection per floor where the TV is going, you have to save somewhere.
* Result: At the network outlet, we get 50 Mbit/s, Wi-Fi with a repeater around 20, sometimes only about 5, Powerline adapters around 25. It’s enough for me, but the kids are disappointed. I followed all the usual advice.

Oh, I don’t think that’s very far from the original question: when building your next house, pay closer attention to which municipality the plot is in. Some local councils create zoning plans that are practical and aimed at maintaining peace in residential areas, while others want to regulate even the smallest details, like garden gnome hats. Since zoning plans are drawn from a bird’s-eye view and often don’t include contour lines, this increasingly leads to issues—especially nowadays, when the last hillside areas are being developed due to demand—such as elevation regulations that only work on one side of the street.

Should I start moving this off-topic, or will we get back on track soon?At #140, I thought: move it off-topic!
ontopic:
- I would build right on the energy saving regulation limit / old KfW 70 standard. Everything else only filled the contractors’ wallets and will never pay off in the long run.
- Gas instead of an air-to-water heat pump
- No central Buderus ventilation system. Outdated nonsense. The controls seem to have been imported from the 1980s.
- + Basement
- Higher knee wall

- I would build exactly to the energy saving regulation limit / old KfW 70 standard. Anything beyond that only benefits the contractors financially and will never pay off in the long run.

- Plus a basement
- Higher knee wall
Overall, I would build a slightly larger house, either with a basement or extend the house by one meter (3 feet). Why gas instead of an air-to-water heat pump? I’m curious, we are satisfied with ours.
